Take A Ride On A City Cat

1. Walk or park your car at your closest City Cat terminal and take a ride to SouthbankSouthbank Markets Brisbane. Read more … » for a swim or to New FarmNew Farm. Read more … » Park for a play. Cost$: $10-20 approx.

2. Rollerblading, skateboard, scoot or ride your bikes around the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens. Enjoy all the different species of plants and read the placards describing all sorts of interesting information about the plants and where they came from. Cost$: Parking Meter


Bushwalking is educational, healthy and fun for kids.

3. Bushwalk through one of the many State or National Parks such as Mt Cootha Forest Park, Toohey Forest, Mt Nebo, Mt Glorious. Mt Glorious is usually 5 to 10 degrees cooler than Brisbane and is a great way to get out of the heat. Pack a simple picnic for a snack after your walk. Cost$: Petrol or bus fare

4. Visit the Museum and Art Gallery. Entry is free for most exhibitions. Then you can walk along the river boardwalk for a swim at Southbank. Cost$: Bus/Train Fare (parking is $15 if you want to use theirs).

5. Got a tent? Camp-out in your garden or living room. Cost$: FREE

6. Plant seeds or seedlings in pots at the beginning of the school holidays and watch your garden grow. Give your individual children their own plant babies to look after to nurture your children’s ability to show care for other living things. Take daily photos to see how much each different plant has grown. Cost$: $10 – $20

7. The No Particular Reason Party – invite as many people as you like and ask each group to bring a plate of finger food. You can even give it a theme. Cost$: Plate of food

8. Rainy Day? Download some craft activities from one of many free children’s websites or buy wooden toys to play with. Cost$: FREE

9. Write an adventure story together or find out when there are activities on at your local library. Your children will be read to and entertained while you can browse the shelves on your own – bliss! Cost$: FREE

10. Get the kids to put on a fashion show & join in. Make sure you film it or take photos for posterity, it’ll make great memories for the future. Cost$: FREE
